CIMIC Group’s engineering arm has been contracted by the state government to install a substation at the new Bellevue railcar depot.
The contract is worth about $10.3 million and involves the design and construction of a traction feeder substation at the Bellevue depot, located on Elgee Road.
UGL secured the work from the Public Transport Authority of WA ahead of two other contractors, according to the Tenders WA website.
The substation is expected to be built by January 2023.
Separately, FIRM Construction is building the railcar assembly and high-voltage testing facilities at the depot under a $47 million contract awarded in February last year.
The facility is intended for the manufacturing and maintenance of 246 new railcars, as part of a 10-year contract the state government signed with French company Alstom in December 2019.
The first trains are scheduled to be delivered in 2022, with Alstom to undertake maintenance work for 30 years thereafter.
The overall project is part of the state government’s $1.2 billion Metronet railcar program.
