Five Ipswich businesses were forced onto the street yesterday after their locks were changed with no notice.
It’s understood the previous owner of the buildings at 15, 17 and 19 Ellenborough Street sold the properties in July, but failed to inform the tenants.
Wednesday morning, the tenants, who were still paying rent, arrived at their businesses to find their locks had been changed without notice and notices of possession issued.
Rafter & Rose, Brow & Beaute Boudoir, Elan Hair & Co., lawXo were among the businesses forced to close.
Candy Gazdagh, owner of Rafter & Rose, told Sofie Formica the locks were changed late the night before.
“Jodie at Brow & Beaute, she had left after 8[pm], so somebody was waiting in the carpark.
“She thought it was a little bit sus.”
At this time, Ms Gazdagh is unsure whether her lease is void.
“It took all day to get back in, but also all day to get a licence to trade.
“Whether our lease is null and void, we kind of have to get some advice on that.”
