Triangle up on board clean-out

Oil junior Triangle Energy Global will start trading tomorrow with an entirely different board than that of a week ago, when it announced then chief executive Rob Towner had resigned.

Greg Hancock, Conrad Todd and Mike Collins were to be appointed as directors from 5pm this evening, the Perth Basin-focused company said in an announcement to the ASX.

On Wednesday last week, the business, which operates the Cliff Head oil platform, had told markets that Wai-Lid Wong had left the board.

Mr Wong was also chief executive of Tamarind Resources.

That was revealed on the same day Triangle had said Mr Towner would resign after nearly eight years as chief executive.

On that day, the then board had said Mr Towner had made a valuable contribution to the company, and had transitioned the business from operating assets in Indonesia to the Perth Basin.

The ASX release listed Timothy Monckton as chairman and two remaining directors as Malcolm King and Deanna Carpenter.

In its announcement of the new board today, Triangle did not disclose what had happened to those three directors.

Among the new team, Mr Collins served as vice-president of exploration at Mitsui Australia and as an analyst for Woodside Petroleum.

Mr Hancock has held directorships including ASX-listed Cooper Energy, according to his bio, while Mr Todd previously worked as an exploration manager at Cooper and as chief geophysicist at Lundin Malaysia.

All of this comes after a major transaction was refused by regulators earlier this month.

Triangle had planned to buy almost 80 per cent of exploration permit WA-481-P from Pilot Energy.

But Pilot first had needed to increase its own stake from 60 per cent to 100 per cent through a purchase from Key Petroleum.

The National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator would not approve the transfer and had requested further submissions in early February.

Shares in Triangle lifted 31 per cent today to be 2.1 cents each at the close.

Neither Triangle nor Mr Towner responded to media enquiries immediately prior to publication.
