Complete Home Filtration, Ear Science Institute Australia and West Australian Shalom Group were among the national winners of the Telstra Best of Business Awards.

The eight winners were announced at a gala dinner in Sydney last night.

Complete Home Filtration, named 2020 Startup of the Year at Business News’s RISE Business Awards, took out the outstanding growth category.

The judges said the business demonstrated that a clear vision and ingenuity could drive growth for small businesses.

“The business’ success can be firmly attributed to the founder’s commitment to ongoing improvement and innovation, which has seen it develop world-first product innovations tailored to the needs of its customers both locally and abroad,” the judges said.

It was one of the first startups in WA to gain financial backing from local venture capital fund BetterLabs Ventures, which is backed by the Royal Automobile Club of WA.

Not-for-profit Ear Science Institute Australia won the championing health category for the large impact its organisation was having in Australia and internationally.

“The team showed a strong commitment to research and clinical service delivery that will truly improve health outcomes for generations to come,” the judges said.

Shalom Group, which runs Henley Brook-based Shalom House, was recognised for its work supporting its participants and helping to set them up for life and topped the building communities award.

According to the team of judges, Shalom House’s model had the potential to be scaled nationally and internationally and had reach beyond the participants of its program.

Telstra consumer and small business group executive Michael Ackland said more than 24,000 small businesses nominated for the program and the winners had demonstrated exception leadership in their categories.

“It’s been an honour to meet these incredible small business owners and provide them with a well-deserved moment of recognition as they continue to contribute to Australia’s thriving small business community,” Mr Ackland said.

The national winners were awarded following in-depth interviews with a range of senior business leaders.
