Panel approves $22m cold storage warehouse

A $22 million warehouse proposal at the Sadleirs Logistics site has been given the green light as Queensland-based transport company Lindsay Australia aims to expand its WA operation.

The Metro Inner-South Joint Development Assessment Panel unanimously approved Lindsay Australia’s application to build its new facility on a 33,988 sqm site on 454 Belmont Avenue and 3 – 5 Miles Road, Kewdale, at its meeting today.

The lots are currently owned by Sadleirs Group and its buildings on the subject site, including a warehouse and office, are expected to be demolished as part of the approval.

The application, lodged by town planners Peter Webb & Associates on Lindsay Australia’s behalf, said the development would include an administration building, hardstand area, truck docking and parking areas, vehicle workshop, wash bays and fuel depot.

One building would comprise of the logistics centre, including a warehouse and office, while the second building would house the workshop and wash bays.

Lindsay Australia is an ASX-listed integrated transport, logistics and rural supply company and has a WA depot on Glassford Road, Kewdale.

Peter Webb & Associates director Nik Hidding said Lindsay Australia was undergoing a national expansion, setting its eyes on its WA operation after building a facility in New South Wales.

“Their current Perth warehouse in Kewdale is severely constrained,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time for Lindsay, it’s good for Perth to have a good cold storage facility.”

Mr Hidding said he expected construction to start in the next 12 months.

The application also includes a 64-bay carpark, three crossovers along Belmont Avenue and a loading area with 16 bays.
