All four of WA’s public universities have improved their places on Quacquarelli Symonds’ latest ranking, one of three major global higher education lists of its sort.

The outfit, which has published its university rankings since 2004, has released its 2023 league table, with The University of Western Australia the highest ranked WA university at 90, up from 93 in 2021.

Curtin University was the next highest ranked institution in WA, creeping up from 193 to 194.

Murdoch University also jumped from the list’s 581-590 band to its 561-570 band, while Edith Cowan University went from 651-700 to 601-650.

The University of Notre Dame, the state’s only private university, maintained its position in the list’s 1201-1400 band.

QS’s lists weights academic reputation as 40 per cent of its rankings, with citations per faculty and student-faculty ratio accounting for a further 40 per cent.

International student and faculty ratio, as well as employer reputation, make up the remaining 20 per cent.

Employment outcomes and international research networks are also considered, however they are not weighted in the final ranking.
